Increase Creativity with Book Creator!

As we know, giving students the ability to create real-world projects often increases engagement and understanding of concepts. I've shared ways to make videos, podcasts, posters, and more, but one project I keep hearing teachers talk about is the idea of having students create a book. I've heard suggestions for children's books, cookbooks, and comic books. The answer for all of this is Book Creator!
Book Creator is an online eBook tool that allows you to create everything from a simple novel-style book with text to a complete digital experience with embedded audio, video, images, and more. There are some great templates to choose from or books can be built entirely from scratch.
Book Creator projects run through the teacher, so for a student to create a book, the teacher must first create a library and invite the students. Then students are free to create whatever they'd like! One limitation to the free account is that teachers can only have one library with 40 books in it, so it won't necessarily work to have all of your students in all of your classes creating books, but it is a great option to include when students get to choose their own product. Alternatively, you could create a whole class book by compiling content that the students develop in other tools! Here is a great example of students who took 6-word stories and turned them into comic strips! And here is one where students learned about the art and math of origami and shared it.
If you aren't quite ready to have your students dive into a new digital tool that will require training, you could also use Book Creator just for yourself. Here's a custom "textbook" I made for my summer crochet camp!
You can add in whatever content you want that supports your curriculum. You can bring in other websites or database articles or even audio and video you find on sources like Wikimedia Commons.
