Canva is a great tool for creating a variety of different types of projects. There are templates available for everything from presentations to posters to videos to websites to t-shirts to social media posts and tons more! They even have whiteboard-style open spaces for brainstorming. Within the tool, there are hundreds of thousands of stock elements that can be inserted into projects - images, videos, animations, charts, audio, and more.
It's easy to see how Canva could be useful for most subject areas, but...what about math and science? So often, these subjects are forgotten when it comes to digital tools. Trying to "type" mathematical symbols can be time consuming and frustrating. Canva now has a solution!
To demonstrate how it works, feel free to use this worksheet template - just go to File > Make a Copy to edit your own version. Once you are editing your own version, take a look at the left side of the screen in Canva and scroll down until you see the "Apps" tab:
In there, search for "Equations" and select the Equations app:
After you open the app, it should now show up in your left sidebar for quick access for the future!
With the app open, you can either type or click the buttons to create a mathematical formula. Once you are happy with it, click the "Insert Equation" button and it will put the formula into your project as an image. If you want to edit it later, simply click on it and open the Equations app again.
You can also dig into the Advanced math symbol section for more options:
If this sounds interesting to you as a math/science teacher, consider searching through Canva's huge collection of templates! Maybe you're interested in worksheets or graphic organizers or just presentations. In Canva's homepage, simply search something like "Algebra Worksheet" or "Chemistry Presentation" or "Calculus Graphic Organizer" and browse through until you find something you like. Students can do the same thing if they are interested in using the Equations app themselves.
As always, please reach out if you have questions or need some support on this useful app!
