Organize Group Projects with Google Chat Spaces

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

In today's world of in-person/remote/hybrid learning, it can often be difficult to manage group projects in classes. Google has a way for your students to stay connected and organized no matter where they are. One location for all of their files, communication, and tasks. All of this can be found by selecting "Chat" from the Google App Launcher (waffle).

From here, students can create a "Space". Think of this as a hub for everything for their group's project. They can add their group members, and I strongly suggest using threaded replies to keep things organized.

Once the group is created, anyone can create new threads, add group documents, or assign tasks. They can also schedule times to meet in person or for all of them to be on the chat.

You can also use this for any of your clubs/organizations that might be planning a fundraiser or event. Teachers can use it if they are planning a cross-curricular project. How about using it as an asynchronous meeting tool? Be creative and give it a try!
