Over the last few weeks, I have found myself answering the same couple of questions multiple times in a variety of classes with a variety of students. I wanted to use this week's post to provide something of a "Frequently Asked Questions" to help you help your students so they can get back to working more quickly rather than needing to submit help tickets or come to the library for support on easy fixes. I put together this resource that you can share in Google Classroom if you'd like. You can also find it on the Hub under Technology. I will continue adding to this in the future if we come across more common problems. But for now...here's what you'll see: Computer running slowly or things just don't seem to be working correctly? Restart your computer! It sounds too easy to work, but this simple fix can often solve a lot of problems.
Can't print or access the library databases in the school? Check your network! You need to be on the Staff or Student network (not Guest) to be able to print and access databases. Personal devices will NOT be able to connect to Staff or Student. You will need to use a school device to print. Databases can be accessed on Guest using the passwords listed on the library website.
Microphone not working? Look for the microphone icon on the top row of your keyboard (the function keys) - it should look like one of these:
This button toggles the microphone on and off. It is often hit by mistake since it is next to the volume keys.
Printout doesn't look right? Check your print settings before you hit print! Make sure you know which printer it is sending to and check your double-sided preference. Also make sure to look at the preview window - if it looks like it will be cut off, you can change your scale setting to "fit to paper".
Trying to print from Canva? Click the "Share" button and then choose "Download". Change the file type to "PDF Print" and download the file. Open the pdf file and print from there!
Can't find your district bookmarks or extensions? We have pushed out some bookmarks and extensions to students and staff. If you don't see them, you need to sync your Chrome account. Click the small profile photo in the top of your browser window (the smaller one up near your address bar, not the larger one visible when you are on a Google page) and click "Turn on Sync".
If you have any other common questions that you see a lot that aren't covered here, please let me know and I will be happy to add it to the Technology FAQs Document!
