We've talked before about how Google Slides can be used for so much more than just presentations. I gave you some ideas about books and brochures...now I'd like to give you a few more resources and get you thinking about how you or your students could create your own templates.
Let's start with some fun ideas centered around social media.
NOTE - To use them, go to File->Make a Copy. The first slide of each is an example with directions...look to slides 2 and beyond for editable sections!
Twitter Template: Create a "Twitter War" between Nixon and Kennedy
Instagram Template: Take photos of your artwork and create an Instagram post featuring a caption and hashtags
Facebook Template: Create a Facebook post/comment thread between characters in a novel
Netflix Template: Develop a scientific documentary series and describe the content of each episode of the series (bonus points for actually making the videos!)
iMessage Template: Text message threads in a foreign language
Google Slides recently implemented Image Placeholders. In the templates above...anywhere you see the little image icon that you can click on to change the image? Those are Image Placeholders. Basically, this allows you to set where the pictures are positioned, what size they are, and what shape they are without actually inserting your own picture.

This is where we start to get a little more advanced...

How Do I Build My Own Template?
The key to making a template is the "Theme Builder" (formerly known as "Master Slide"). This lets you edit, delete, and add new slide layouts and set certain design elements. If you want certain fonts or colors or a logo on each slide, you can do this in the Theme Builder. This is also where you can find the Image Placeholders. The Netflix template provides the best example of different layout templates.
I'm not going to overwhelm you with more directions or details...but if this has piqued your interest and you want some guidance...reach out and let's talk! If you have some cool templates you've created and would like to share...send them my way! If you have ideas for templates and want me to make them...let me know - I had a blast creating these ones!
