Use New Google Docs Tabs to Organize Assignments!

Google Docs just added a brand new feature called "Document Tabs" that allows you to break one single document into multiple parts. This is a great way to help students focus and not become overwhelmed by a long document!

To help you visualize what this would look like for students - imagine a project where you have a research element, a planning element, a project element, and a reflection element. If you put that all into one document, it might be 3-4 or more pages long. If you add in a rubric or any other assessment pieces, it might become even longer. For many students, it is stressful to even look at something that long. (Full disclosure, SchoolAI helped me create this sample assignment. 🙂)

Using Document Tabs, you can break the assignment into each individual part so students can focus more easily. Of course, they will always be able to navigate to the other sections, but this is much more visually appealing and easier to follow:

Creating Document Tabs is super easy! Just use the sidebar on the left side of a Google Document to add and edit your tabs.

The "+" icon lets you add new tabs and the "â‹®" icon allows you to edit an existing tab where you can add sub-tabs, rename, duplicate, add an emoji, and even get a link directly to that specific tab!

Document Tabs are available in new AND previously created documents, so you can always go back to an old assignment and organize it into tabs if you want!
