Voting Chips in Google Docs

This week I wanted to give you something a little more fun. Over the summer, Google Docs added a new little "smart chip" called the "Voting Chip." Basically, it provides a super fast and easy way for collaborators on a document to provide feedback in the form of a "vote." For example...Spirit Week is coming up. Let's say you have a list of possible dress up day ideas and you want to see what the student reps think about each day. You could do something like this:

See those little heart and eye-rolling emojis? Anyone who has edit access to the document can simply click on one to place their vote. You can only click once on each emoji, so you don't have to worry about one student clicking "Love It" a bunch of times for their favorite. Here's what it looks like when they start voting:

You can also see who has voted for each by hovering over the voting chip:

To insert these voting chips anywhere in a Google Doc, you can either type in the "@" symbol followed by "Voting Chip" or you can go to Insert-> Smart chips -> Voting chip. It gives you the option to choose between a thumbs up, a heart, and a plus sign, but you can also click "Custom voting chip" and choose any emoji you like (just like I did above!)

It makes the most sense to me to put these chips into a table, but they can be inserted literally anywhere in a document. Obviously this doesn't replace a more traditional "secret" vote that you would get through something like a Google Form, but it is a fun and quick way to gather feedback from a lot of people. :)
